B9 3.0T STAGE 1

IE Stage 1 ECU calibration dramatically increases performance with up to 505HP & 585TQ, transforming your turbocharged 3.0L into a truly performance-classed vehicle. IE's advanced tuning strategies leave no hidden power on the table and safely max out the factory turbocharger's capability. Engineered to operate on entirely stock hardware and compatible with basic bolt-ons (intake, turbo inlet, intercooler) without the need to retune.

B9 3.0T STAGE 2

IE Stage 2 performance software is a complete engine calibration for full bolt-on stock turbo builds running an aftermarket racing downpipe and catalyst. The unique B9 EA839 engines are equipped with a smaller factory turbo and large stock downpipe with incredibly minimal exhaust restrictions. Using advanced calibration techniques, IE calibrators can extract full peak power on pump gas and ethanol fuels on Stage 1 and 2 downpipe setups. However, the required hardware upgrades for stage 2 will increase airflow, lower intake air temps, faster IAT recovery, and produce an overall more efficient and faster vehicle on the same power.

ETHANOL FUELS

E85 & E40 blend ethanol fuels are included with all stages and unlock the most performance potential from our ECU tunes. Ethanol contains tons of oxygen, burns cooler, and has a high resistance to knock. This provides more horsepower and torque than running conventional gasoline and is much less expensive than race gas.



FULL E85

IE calibrators spent many months developing and testing ethanol blends on the B9 3.0T engines in many climates and elevations. Results were consistent that full E85 runs very close to or beyond the limit of the factory direct injection (DI) fuel system in the mid-range but allows for more power up top. IE's E85 calibration keeps mid-range power in check to avoid lean conditions, misfires, and power loss then ramps it up top for amazingly fast and consistent track times in a drag racing scenario. E85 is also great for easy fill-ups at the pump for daily driving without mixing blends.

E40 BLEND

E40 is an ethanol mix of E85 with regular pump 91/93 fuel creating a lower ethanol content fuel. E40 offers the optimal ethanol content for the factory DI fuel system in the mid-range of the power band. The lower content ethanol allows this file to create the maximum power output from 3000RPM-4000RPM, perfect for road course and track racing. E40 will also result in a faster feeling car in most street driving situations.

An ethanol content sensor kit is highly recommended when running ethanol blends.




BRAKE BOOST

Commonly used in roll racing, Brake Boosting allows you to build extra boost by applying brake pressure while accelerating. Release the brake pressure for a "rolling launch" or extra surge of power.

Brake Boost is included on all tune stages.

EXHAUST OVERRUN

The stock calibration features a very mild overrun/crackle when you decelerate from higher RPM, but is very hard to hear with factory downpipe/exhaust. Stage 2 files turn up the aggressiveness of this overrun and enable crackles on free-revving in neutral or park. Not only will your car drive faster, it will sound faster too! Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Exhaust Overrun is included on stage 2 tunes.



BOOST CONTROL

The stock ECU boost control is delivered in a very “close enough” and erratic boost curve. This slow response is reflected in the factory torque curve and can be felt on long power pulls when utilizing the entire powerband. To smooth out this torque curve, IE calibrators re-tuned the boost control mapping to be much faster achieving precision boost request targeting that results in unmatched power delivery.

THROTTLE MAPPING

The new generation Audi MG1 ECU uses a complicated mass flow model to calculate boost control. Typical ECU tunes simply raise the wastegate pressure, however, since the maps that control wastegate position (boost) are not controlled by throttle input resulting in limited throttle predictability. To avoid delivering full-boost at half throttle input, IE engineers have taken the care to rescale the entire mass flow model mathematically over 30 maps which correct the entire range of throttle input. This delivers a linear and predictable throttle pedal which improves drivability in every situation on the street or track.



EGT OPTIMIZATION

Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) is the measurement of fuel mixtures exiting the exhaust and is used to determine the health of the fuel/air mixture entering the engine. IE engineers have spent countless hours adjusting boost air/fuel ratio, ignition timing angle, camshaft phasing, intake air temps, and much more to develop the proper EGT adjustments for ultimate engine safety without sacrificing power on all octanes. Since Ethanol burns cooler than gasoline, the extra fuel left over in the cylinders acts as coolant further reducing combustion temperatures and allows for a leaner air to fuel ratio without dangerous EGT levels. All IE files contain safety measures and complete knock control to keep the engine producing its potential within verified and safety-first operation.

RECALIBRATED VE

The factory engine calibration shows a significant drop in torque and power around 3000 RPM due to the unique volumetric efficiency (VE) of the stock 3.0T engine. Instead of tuning around this drop in VE or attempting to simply raise the factory torque/load maps to compensate, our calibrators have completely solved and removed this drop from our ECU calibrations entirely.

IE's dyno charts are ported directly from our in-house dyno cells and are not modified or "smoothed" in any way.

IE Stage 3 plus is for those looking to smash the competition with the maximum power output available from the hybrid turbocharger. This blistering fast calibration requires additional hardware upgrades to increase fueling support for even more power from pump gas and unlocks ethanol blends. Using an upgraded HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) and TTE 4 bar map sensors for up to 642HP and 638TQ on E30 ethanol blend. Or go all out with a truly exhilarating 715HP and 678TQ with upgraded fuel injectors and E70 ethanol blend!

IE STAGE 3 TTE710 TCU TUNE

IE Stage 3 and Stage 3 Plus far exceed the factory set transmission torque limit while delivering more power across the entire powerband and holding that power further into the higher RPM range. These performance enhancements require a complete matching transmission control unit (TCU) calibration. TTE710 HYBRID TURBO

IE engineers and calibrators valued fast boost response, top-end power, and a robust build when selecting a turbocharger as the base for our Stage 3 tuning. After extensive research and testing, the clear winner by a long shot was the advanced design of the German-made TTE710 from The Turbo Engineers. This hybrid turbo is a direct bolt-in replacement that provides a unique combination of big top-end power and responsive boost with very minimal lag. When combined with IE's calibration strategies, the result is a perfect marriage of modern vehicle tech and raw chest-pounding performance.

TTE710 TUNE DEVELOPMENT

ENGINE MANAGEMENT

Stage 3 horsepower is a serious amount of power for any engine. To keep the stock engine internals safe under these extreme power levels, IE calibration and software engineers employed highly advanced tuning practices and equipment to develop a complete ground-up engine management system within the factory ECU. Extensive mapping rework was performed to support the TTE710 and verified in thousands of complete powerband pulls in our dyno cells and countless hours of testing every tune iteration on the street and track. All performance calibrations and safety coding has been rewritten and converted to run with the substantial power gains from the large hybrid turbocharger.



ADVANCED R&D

To properly configure the ECU, IE's engineers installed a variety of additional sensors and probes throughout the engine to record critical data that is not available via the factory equipment. This is an expensive and tedious process; however, the information gathered is priceless when calibrating the ECU for the new hardware specifications. The added sensors record cylinder pressures, EGT, exhaust pressure, mass airflow, and more for a high-resolution log of important turbo and engine operating parameters.

MAPPING STRATEGY

The advanced software development strategies provide the confidence to responsibly build a calibration suite for peak power output without relying on risky modeled information or guesses for engine and drivetrain safety. Hundreds of maps have been defined and calibrated from a ground-up approach to create a fully rounded software suite designed to deliver professional motorsport quality performance while improving everyday driving characteristics beyond factory programming. The result is more than adjusted stock tune mapping and delivers a true TTE710 engine management system completely realized within the factory ECU.


COMPRESSOR EFFECIENCY

One of the countless important examples of this advanced programming is the development of the factory wastegate/boost pressure control mapping. The MG1 ECU contains a sophisticated model with many inputs used to ensure proper engine safety adaptations for any operating condition or climate; the compressor efficiency of the larger turbo drastically alters this model. Instead of tuning around these shortcomings with compromises, IE's calibration team expanded the map structure specifically to the TTE710 from the ground up, ensuring proper drivability, perfect boost control, safe boost regulation, and guaranteed consistency in all driving conditions.

WASTEGATE PREDICTED STROKE

The vast difference in wastegate flow and response with the TTE710 compared to the stock turbo provides another extreme example of a situation where the factory mapping has been completely disregarded and replaced with an entirely new strategy. Significant time has been invested in perfecting every input affecting this system resulting in a map that has taken on an entirely different shape matching the characteristics of the hybrid turbo's boost control. This thorough calibration process is the result of many months but delivers unparalleled power delivery and reliable power at any throttle input beyond even the factory feel.


REAL WORLD TESTING

At every stage of tune development, the results were dyno tested, street verified, pushed on the track, and expanded to a beta testing community. This verification process provides a library of data from various vehicles, fuels, climates, weather conditions, and altitudes, all used to make numerous changes to the files to maximize performance, driving characteristics, and reliability in any situation. In one of these track tests, an early TTE710 tune variant set the B9 3.0T world record and became the official first B9 3.0T in the 9s!


ETHANOL BLENDS

Stage 3 Plus utilizes 4-bar MAP sensors and an HPFP upgrade to open the fueling potential for the E30 ethanol blend for a massive jump in power over pump gas. Upgrade your fuel system with optional 4.0TT RS injectors for a higher E70 blend and the track-destroying 715HP! E30/E70 is the highest blend safely available within the fuel system limitations delivering the maximum performance numbers without pulling power for higher E%. Ethanol content must not exceed 5% of the required blend; an ethanol content sensor kit and gauge are highly recommended.

BRAKE BOOST

Brake Boosting provides a competitive edge in a roll racing scenario by using brake pressure to build boost at speed resulting in a rolling launch.

EXHAUST OVERRUN

Stage 3 files include optional exhaust overrun/crackles for an aggressive motorsport sound during decel or free-revving in neutral or park. The feature is enabled in sport mode only and can be disabled by setting drive select to comfort, or toggling engine sounds to comfort in individual mode.

AIR INTAKE SYSTEM

The larger turbocharger requires increased airflow from an upgraded air intake system. Additionally, the TTE710 has an increased 66mm turbo inlet size at the compressor requiring a matching aftermarket turbo inlet. IE intake and turbo inlet are recommended to make the installation process of your new hybrid turbo a simple bolt-in job. Our cast turbo inlet design utilizes a CNC-machined adapter to fit the TTE710 without hassle while maintaining the largest size possible for zero flow restrictions.

INTERCOOLER

With power comes heat; upgrading your intercooler is crucial for both performance and safety on TTE710 Stage 3 power levels. Our IE FDS Intercooler upgrade is highly recommended to provide the lowest IATs from unique design features and proven charge-air cooling capability.

DOWNPIPE UPGRADE

The factory-equipped downpipe cannot support the power levels provided by IE's Stage 3 race suite and the hybrid turbo's exhaust flow rate; a performance aftermarket downpipe is required. Our TTE710 development vehicle was equipped with this downpipe in our world-first 9-second B9 3.0T quarter-mile run. Our IE Cast Catted Downpipe Kit provides a direct-fit install with the hybrid turbo.
